WikiAnesthesia Contributor Guide

There are lots of ways to contribute to WikiAnesthesia, whatever your profession, training level, or location through creating, editing, and discussing articles on the main site or within your Practice Group.

Creating & Managing An Account

In order to contribute to WikiAnesthesia you will need to create an account:

1. Create an account. We ask for users' real name and credentials to attribute credit appropriately and facilitate growth of the WikiAnesthesia community.
2. Confirm your email address (required before creating content). If you do not receive a confirmation email, check your spam folder. You can also resend the email from the email options section of your preferences.

New users can create new articles and edit most articles on the site immediately. To combat spam, any changes made by new users will be visible to that user, but not immediately reflected on the public site until they are reviewed by an editor. Once a new user has made several successful edits, their account will be promoted to the contributor level which will bypass editor review of future contributions. can we go over this process please; possibly move to section below

WikiAnesthesia Principles

Not sure what exact direction to take with this but I want to provide a rapid overview of the site principles here that is unashamedly adapted from Wikipedia.

mostly taken directly from that of Wikipedia. My current thinking is to expound these three basic principles with a brief explanation as how they apply specifically to WikiAnesthesia and with links to further information from Wikipedia which is obviously much more developed, rather than writing our own extensive documentation. I'm assuming/hoping that we are on the same page about the principles!

When editing WikiAnesthesia, bear the following principles in mind:

• WikiAnesthesia is a work in progress:
  • WikiAnesthesia is only just getting started and will take time to reach its potential, with your help!
  • Incomplete or poorly written articles are not a problem but a starting point, perfection is not required and articles will never be "finished" as anesthesia practice continue to evolve.
  • With that in mind, as Wikipedia puts it: Be bold in editing or creating articles.
• WikiAnesthesia is a collaboration:
  • Articles do not have owners, most can be edited by any user, and once created content is free for others to use link to CC license info
  • WikiAnesthesia is created by and for all those learning and practicing anesthesia, regardless of profession, training level, or location; all users have something of value to add and should be respected
    • Possibly something more about lack of hierarchies and reaching community consensus?
    • Etiquette / editing and discussing
    • Conflicts of interest/neutrality/plagiarism
• WikiAnesthesia is free and open
  • Article content should be free from bias, if you have a conflict of interest please declare it on your user page and do not make edits where this conflict would manifest
  • WikiAnesthsia is written for anesthesia practitioners, not the general public, but please bear in mind that anyone can browse the site and your username is visible
